Playin' in the Mud, Pottery Studio

Artist: Leigh Partington

I was introduced to clay at the ripe young age of 4, when I made my first handbuilt creations with “Miss Betty” Bodnarchuk. I was reintroduced to ceramics and the kickwheel in high school and started taking classes at the newly opened Glen Echo Pottery. I went on to Western Maryland College (now McDaniel) and graduated with a BA in Fine Arts. I learned throwing and handbuilding techniques from different instructors, apprenticeships and workshops over the years.

My work has evolved into a combination of whimsical wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces with an emphasis on my love of and appreciation for animals, birds and nature in general. I have been making ocarinas since 2005 to add music to my menagerie.

I display and sell my work through various venues, including the Montgomery Potters, ALOG, Something Earthy gallery and Wild Birds Unlimited. (See the links page for more info.)
